VAUGHAN, ON — The Guelph Royals met the Burlington Falcons in the third final of the day. The wind seemed to by settling, providing smoother conditions compared to the Under 13 Girls Final.

In the 23rd minute, Burlington found themselves with a free-kick from 20 yards out with #3 Brandyn Favero standing over the ball.

However, his right-footed blast to the top left corner was just wide, and the score remained tied 0-0.

In the 39th minute, Burlington capitalized on another free-kick with #10 Colin Edwards scoring with a header from inside the box to put the Falcons on the scoreboard 1-0.

In the second half, the Royals pressed hard for the tying goal with Burlington reduced to playing on the counter.

14 minutes into the half, the Royals found the back of the Falcons net, only to have it ruled offside.

As the clock wound down, the play see-sawed back and forth and both teams looked for long passes and through-balls to decide the game.

With 8 minutes remaining, Guelph pressed hard and delivered a dangerous cross which floated across the Burlington goal-mouth, only to be missed by everyone as Burlington’s lead survived once again.

In the dying minutes, Guelph fought desperately for the equalizer, winning all the battles, but Falcons keeper #1 Eric Lalonde was up for the challenge and parried all shots.

In the final 2 minutes of added time, Burlington’s #10 Colin Edwards broke free of the stretched Royals defence and sealed their fate with a superb strike for his second goal of the game and the coveted Ontario Cup.
